Art Education

At Westminster, we believe the purpose of education is to cultivate the whole person. Quantitative reasoning, verbal expression, and creativity are all essential parts of a life marked by wisdom, virtue, and eloquence. Because every student is made in the image of a creative God, education should seek to develop the full spectrum of the intellect, not just one part of it.

For this reason, the arts are not viewed as extracurricular at Westminster, but as an essential part of a complete education. While subjects such as math, science, and English are often given primary attention in many schools, we believe the study of art is equally valuable. Art not only nurtures creativity and craftsmanship but also deepens a student’s understanding of truth, beauty, and goodness in the world around them.

At Westminster, every subject tells God’s story, and the arts play a vital role in helping students see that story more clearly. Through the study and creation of art, students learn to observe carefully, think deeply, and respond to the beauty and order of God’s creation. The arts enrich learning across disciplines and help cultivate students who are prepared to engage the world with wisdom, wonder, and gratitude to the glory of God.
