Summer Enrichment

Summer is a great time for your students to change gears with their studies.  We have a presentation here that talks about finding something meaningful for them to do over the summer break.  Since many of you are starting to plan those activities, we wanted to let you know about several opportunities available to your students through Westminster.

ACT at Westminster (rising 9th-12th grades) - Saturday, June 10th

As a service to our families, Westminster will be an unlisted ACT Test Site for the June 2023 ACT test.  Any Westminster high school student may register, but please make sure your student is ready and will take this opportunity seriously. To register, please see the attached "ACT at Westminster Information Sheet".

Westminster Shelby County Community Education Drivers Ed (ages 15 and up) - June 12th - 23rd

The Community Education Department of Shelby County Schools will offer Driver Education classes this summer for Westminster students. Upon successful completion of the course, each student will receive course credit on their transcript, certificate of completion, vessel endorsement and instructions to acquire their driver license online.  This is the "golden ticket" class for students who know how to drive because they will be testing for their license (this is NOT a class to teach your student to drive). If they pass, they will get instructions on how to go online when they turn 16 to get their license without having to go to the DMV.

Course requirements: Prior to beginning class, students must have 50 miles of varied driving experience. For more information please see the attached "Driver's Education at Westminster Information Sheet".

Summer Enrichment Classes (rising 7th-12th grades) - June 5th - 15th, and June 19th - 29th

During the month of June, Westminster will offer courses for our students to complement their education at Westminster. These courses are taught both by Westminster teachers and other known instructors who are experts in their field. To learn more about these courses, please see the attached "Westminster Summer Enrichment Classes" information sheet.  Sign up for Westminster Summer Enrichment Classes here.

Early College Credit/Dual Enrollment Courses (rising 10th-12th grades) - All Summer

Westminster has agreements with 4 local colleges to allow a high school student to earn credit at college and high school at the same time – dual enrollment.  Enrollment is dependent on approval of the Head of Upper School, signed agreement of the student and parent, and acceptance to the college program.  More information is available on the attached "Early College Credit Information Sheet".

Information sessions by the college representatives will be scheduled during the month of February. AuburnFirst is scheduled every Tuesday in February at noon. Go here to join their virtual information session. UA Early College representatives will be at Westminster on Tuesday, February 14 during lunch. Please make sure your student attends to hear more!

Additional information will be coming out soon about all of these opportunities.  If you have any questions, please email Kim Fulcher (kfulcher@westminsterknights.org) or Sarah Brannan (sbrannan@westminsterknights.org).  We are enjoying getting to know and working with each of your students!
