Academics and Fine Arts
Classrooms
During peak class periods, we have 20 classes meeting in a building with only 16 classrooms. As a result, some classes are held in the café area of the atrium, a teacher workroom, a faculty conference room, and our college and career office. Several humanities classes even meet in the art room.
Adding five new academic classrooms and breakout spaces will allow us to maximize the classroom experience by providing:
- Dedicated Classrooms: Every class will have a designated classroom, allowing the teacher workrooms, conference room, and café to return to their intended purposes.
- Expanded Offerings: Three additional classrooms available each period will enable us to expand our academic and elective offerings.
- Teacher Workspaces: Teachers will have spaces for preparation and collaboration.
- Student Engagement Areas: Teachers and students will have multiple spaces to work one-on-one or in small groups.
Five additional classrooms will enable every class to have a classroom and allow for expanding elective offerings.
Dedicated Fine Arts Space
Our fine arts students currently rehearse for plays and musicals in the Upper School atrium or classrooms, requiring furniture to be moved and limiting their ability to experience a true performance setting. Sets and props must be built and stored in the art room, restricting space for visual arts projects.
A dedicated fine arts space will provide students with:
- Rehearsal Space: A designated area for musical and theatrical rehearsals.
- Stage Simulation: A practice space designed to mirror the performance stage for accurate scene blocking.
- Expanded Visual Arts: Opportunities to offer additional electives, such as ceramics.
- Set and Prop Management: A safe and functional space for building and storing sets and props.
